In the magical moments of the week category:
1-My wife surprised me with tix to see the Todd Rundgren / Joe Jackson show on Tuesday night. How fantastic it was. They both are incredibly accomplished musicians and the show did not disappoint. Each of them performed several of their pieces solo. The show also featured an opening known as Ethel, which is a very lively, avant string quartet. Cool stuff.
Having never seen Jackson in his heyday, it was especially nice. He still seems rather uncomfortable on stage. Shy even. But poignant and sharp as a tack. Rundgren has, it seems, become more whimsical than ever. I used to be heavy into his stuff- particularly the Utopia phase (ok..high school acid flashbacks aside). He rendered Bang the drum all day on the Ukelele and it was hilarious.
For the finale, Jackson, Rundgren and Ethel all performed together. They did an amazing arrangement of "My Guitar Gently Weeps" and for the finale a stunning rendition of Rundgrens "Black Maria" from Something Anything. Delicious.
2- I read in the paper Friday morning that the Ivory Billed Woodpecker is confirmed to be alive and NOT EXTINCT. How fucking amazing is that!!!!!! Go you big bad-ass woodpecker, go. Fooled us all!!!

Brave or stupid. Definitely the latter. Though I was not really feeling it until I started drinking beer at home. I never did get a hangover though, just incredibly paranoid. Yay for Antarctic drinking. It really does some weird things to us.
