I think this woman is definately one of my new heroes. I'll give you a little background about me first so that it makes a little bit more sense.
While I was in the Navy I was lucky enough to have a port stop in Rosevelt Roads Peurto Rico naval base. On the base was a small beach that couldn't have been much more than half a mile long but nestled inside a small cove so the water was really shallow for quite a ways out. When I got there for the first time some shipmates talked me into going snokrkeling with them. I had never done that before and wasn't a very strong swimmer but it sounded like fun so I agreed. I bought a snorkel and mask (cost me about $35) and went out into the shallows. I was AMAZED at what I saw right under the surface of the water. Fish were everywhere, some of the most beautiful plants I had ever seen were within arm's reach and there were gorgeous rocks mixed in with the sand. I literally spent the entire day swimming back and forth on the surface of the ocean watching all the life that teaming below me. Ever since then I have been ACHING to go back and have never had the oppurtunity.
The woman in the link is named Hannah Frasser and she's a professional mermaid. She also is an advocate for undersea conservation which is another reason i like her. The number one reason I like her though is that she dives with sea life of all kinds. Whales, sea lions, sea turtles, sharkes, fish you name it she has swam with it at some point or another and that makes me jealous. I love diving and while I am no where near the level that she is at in skill just seeing the fish that I saw was more than enough to get me hooked.
