This is actually a really cool video but let's face facts people. The "mermaid" in this video is nothing more than a free diver in a well made tail. This video was shot in 6-7 meter deep water (25 or so feet for those of you in my neck of the woods) near the great barrier reef in Australia. The shooter was a 50 year old man who went out to test a new sand vacum that he had been working on. He wasn't too far out in fact I think the man said he was still within sight of shore. This is actually the second of two videos taken on back to back days. I could probably find the first one but I just woke up and I'm lazy, go find it your damn self.
Now like I said this really isn't anything more than a free diver in a well made tail. I actually stumbled across this video while looking for other videos about how to make a mermaid tail. I had found a couple that went into some detail but left a lot of important information out. The best one I saw was made by LittleOrca but that's a different story. Anyway, all you really have to look at is the movement of the flukes to see that they are man-made. Not only that but the length of the body and shape of the flukes definately suggests that this mermaid is a diver wearing a monofin inside a suit. I don't think he realizes how popular making your own mermaid tails really is, hell I'm thinking about making one. I definately want a monofin that's for sure.
Anyway this brings me to the real story behind my blog, free diving. I had an amazing oppurtunity to go free diving when I was in the Navy and we stopped in Puerto Rico. Some shipmates of mine talked me into buyng a snorkel and mask and going snorkeling right off the on-base beach. They wanted to swim out to an island that was maybe a quarter mile away. Unfortunately I'm not a strong swimmer and after some deliberations they decided it was safer if I stayed behind. I was nervous about swimming out that far anyway so i agreed without much of a fuss. I did however, stay near the beach and swim back and forth with my new snorkel and watched the fish swim around, saw the sea grass waving back and forth in the currents I was blown away. Ever since i have been wanting to go back to a place to go free diving. Now I'm not a strong swimmer still but Wyldesage is seeing to it that we spend more time in the water than out of it so the fire has been re-kindeled(sp?). I lost that old mask and snorkel but I found a new combo at Long's drugs for less than $10. Because you get what you pay for the damn thing leaks but for our pool and for my purpose it serves just fine. I have my eye on a new snorkel and mask combo as well as a monofin and I am going to do with free diving what I did with hockey. Try it again.
Dad is back home. He got some bad news while he was in the hospitol though, his lungs are giving out on him. The docs asked him if he wanted to go to a rehab center but they were only going to send him for a few days before releasing him back home. He didn't see the point because they sent home an oxygen bottle and he has a new oxygen machine here as well. He's still off the beer (he doesn't have money to buy any more) and of course he really misses it but so far except for the one time he hasn't asked for any more. Honestly I'm expecting that battle to begin any day now especially this weekend when he starts watching the NASCAR race. I'm working with my neighbor who went through rehab for alcohol and drug abuse on how to keep my dad sober. My dad is pretty depressed but I think he knows as well as anyone right now that the end is nigh. His body is giving up and so is his mind. Right now I think he wants to move out as much as we want our own place. He hates us seeing him the way he is I'm sure.
Ok I'm going to end this book I'm writing. Check out the video and if you can find the other one see it too. They're both really good.

Well, if I don't go pink with this set, I'll take my cue (sp?) and stop submiting. Unless by the off chance Lorelei wants to shoot with me again. Otherwise-I'll just remove the hopeful tag and not submit anymore.

Do people actually believe this shit? Well, I guess if that fucking ghost hunters show is still on, even on scifi, they do.
