My return to the rink was last night and it was anything but triumphant. First of all my new team is quite the enthusiastic bunch, they skate hard and the play REALLY aggressive but al least half of them hadn't stepped into a rink in two years. Still I like the way these guys play, they just need a gas tank to back it up. Secondly, I forgot my skates when I went to the game.
How could i forget my fucking skates? The most important peice of quipment you wear and I leave mine at home. needless to say I hads to rent a pair of crappy ass skates that I could barely keep my feet in. By the third period I was begging for the game to end because my legs were so worn out I could hardly stand. Still, despite my troubles we managed to loose only 6-1 the last three goals coming in the third period. It was 2-1 from halfway through the first until near the end of the secod when we got caught in a 4-2 penalty kill. While I am frustrated about forgetting my skates I am not dissapointed in my performance. I still made some great saves and my positioning was solid forcing a lot of backwards passes to the point or shots that went wide. I just couldn't move around the crease very well so when a play developed to the left or right of me I had a really hard time getting sqaure to the puck. And skating backwards? Forget it. All in all I'm really happy with my team. They're a really laid back bunch of guys and they've got heart I'm looking forward to a good season. All I need to do now is practice, practice, practice!

Most people don't even bother to play after a certain age, so good on you, man. Keep it up! You might even win a game eventually.
