So, if you dont know, I am a film student. Being a film student I love all film. When I was a kid I grew up watching Gundam Wing, Dragon ball, Outlaw Star. Those television shows and many others got me into the realm of anime. I diddnt know about the realm of anime films untill years later. The first anime film I saw was Ninja Scroll. That film changed my life as far as how I saw the genre. The pacing of the simple yet effective story is perfect in terms of how an action film should be. I started buying anime films every chance I got. Saving my lunch money and spending it on these films was not a problem. Some films I further recommend are, for action, as follows: Ninja Scroll, Red Line, Vampire Hunter D, Vampire Hunter D Blood Lust, Ghost in the Shell, and for a old school kick Fist of the North Star. A good action series is Gantz or Elfin Lied or both. All of those titles are good on story, action and the most important part, atmosphere. There is also Perfect Blue, which is like an animated Hitchcock film. Oh and I cannot forget Akira. Akira is one of my all time favorite films, animated or not. All these films and series kick ass in general and I would be hard pressed to find better American films. Not saying there arent better films out there but anime isnt all about poke mon (which isnt bad, I grew up with it). Give it a chance, there are stories that need an audience. And. Just because its animated does not mean its for kids. Also. Some other great animated films that aren't anime are: Wizards, Heavy Metal, Fantastic planet and the Fantastic Mr. Fox. I hope you find these films as entertaining as I do.
