As a birthday gift to my roommate, I stayed off the internet all day. What a feat! That meant I couldn't possibly stay around the house so I headed out to parks and bookstores like I imagine somewhat normal people might do.
Then I went and saw BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE which is probably the best thing Michael Moore has made. Really liked the balancing of extremes in emotions like moore doing silly guerilla interviews with people, fucking with them with a straight face, then cutting to archival footage of people being shot or committing suicide with guns. one of the more eery parts that i thought was done well was this intercutting of these four surveillance cameras that captured some of the columbine shooting with 911 calls over top of it along with stupid journalists calling people in the school to get interviews.
is this movie playing in a lot of places? the thing with any documentary type movies that want people to think about their lives is getting the right people to see them. I hate a lot of protest rally movies because they always seem to be made for people who already got the message, who already know the story being told. Now they can sit around their group meetings and pump their fists among themselves and say "yeah! we're SO fucking right and they're all wrong!" They should be making shit for those mommies and grannies who otherwise would never have a clue about issues but at the same time not alienating them. Then the hard part, getting it out there for people to see.

Let it keep raining for a while. the streets stink. i hate driving and now i have an excuse not to drive anywhere tomorrow. i need to do some writing to keep busy. i think my cohort is stopping by in a few hours. i might not be able to stay awake. shit, i don't think i will make it.

I don't think I have a problem with that though. The gun lobby in this country disproportionately affects our country's gun policies. Go Michael.
