Girl Stuff (duh)...
so, if you've checked in on Palo's journal today, you would've already got the memo; but, just in case you didn't and just to confirm what she has already stated, i am indeed now Palo's boyfriend...
and, she is my girlfriend. seriously, she even wrote it down in case she forgets:
i'll be completely honest with all of you, i have no idea how i pulled this off. seriously. she has looked prettier and prettier to me every time i've seen her since i met her less than two months ago.
on top of that, she keeps posting pictures of herself according to my favorite fantasies (cute girl with short crazy dark hair and a white button down shirt):
(cute girl with short dark crazy hair and a tie!!!):
i will just assume that kissing a girl this pretty is karmic payback for spending so much time becoming a better dancer, learning how to cook, doing pushups and treating girls with respect.
ironically enough, all of the things that make me an awesome person are all of the things that make me an incredibly difficult boyfriend. i told her this and she was not deterred.
of course, as difficult as I can be, i am also a very simple boy. if you catch my eye and you are warm, if you smell good, if you feel safe and if you feed me, I will lie down next to you like a very large dog and stare at you until I fall asleep.
and, so, the Jordan & Palo adventure begins...
Work Stuff (if you're interested)...
i sometimes don't know what i'm getting myself into...
a few entries ago, i described a situation at work that i'm stuck in. two of the owners are jealous of how much progress i made with the third owner of the company; so they decided to split my work week, 20 hours for each group. half of my day i would do marketing and identity design (for the jealous owners) and the other half, i'd do systems planning and training for the original owner (the man who hired me).
a failed plan for two reasons:
first, i dedicate myself to my work to the point of obsession. you can't dedicate yourself to something to the point of obsession for five hours a day and then switch gears and rededicate yourself to something completely different.
second, the man in charge of marketing and identity design, has no respect for graphic design or for graphic designers. and i am a graphic designer who has given his clients their money back when asked to make changes i did not approve of. i love graphic design. i love the shit out of it. i'm not about to degrade myself and my art, just because every other person i work with (and most of my peers in the industry) would do so for a paycheck.
so, to get out of this situation, i am proposing that i be promoted to manager of the design department. a position that would allow me to implement all of my ideas for systems and training directly into the company. i work in a sign shop, with seven or eight graphic designers who do mostly signage design for customers and occasionally flirt with print design.
i was a designer for a full year before being promoted to Systems Guru. i proposed to do the following things if promoted again to Design Manager:
01 Hire better designers.
02 Train current staff to an acceptable standard.
03 Cross-train, cross-train, cross-train...
04 Introduce the concept of accountability.
05 Create autonomous employees who don't need to be babysat.
06 Enforce the concept of process design.
07 Lay the groundwork to sell Graphic Design as a service.
08 Lay the groundwork to have a top shelf Design department in every location.
of course, if i do get promoted, i actually have to figure out how to do all of this stuff. piece of cake, right?
***
if i don't get the promotion and if they tell me i need to keep working in the same or a similar arrangement, i will quit.
i'm not looking forward to it. but, the fact of the matter is, you have to stand your ground. you have to respect yourself and you have to respect your work...
or you have NO RIGHT to ever expect someone to respect you again.
