today's featured picture is of the famed ocean course at the kiawah island resort in south carolina. kiawah island plays home to the annual world golf championships and is where i'll be meeting up with the family for a few days after i'm done doing the lobbying thing in dc at the end of this month. the latest additon to the family, miss primadonna, will be performing at some annual opera festival in charleston and the family will be on hand to show our support. in the mean time, i've got about two weeks to work the kinks out of my golf swing because i got revenge on the brain. i lost to the old man by one stroke when we played last month and i don't plan on repeating that performance.
aside from important stuff like my golf game, it looks like things in the office'll be keeping me plenty busy since another trip to dc is in the works. most of my time is spent working the phones, being your friendly neighborhood porn defender calling congressional staff in DC. let me tell ya, it ain't easy. especially when one of the industry trade publications is talking about "a potential death knell" for my company in one column and one of our vice presidents shows up with DUMBASS painted on his forehead in another. even the internet movie database is picking up on how shitty the climate is, for chrissake.
last nite marked my triumphant return to the house that house built. it'd been a few months since my last visit to the hollywood's favorite funky sunday nite but GODDAMN!!! that dj made my day. not only did i have a decent groove worked out but i got to shake that thing that makes me money with the likes of freyja, her buddy, a35mmlife, mr. trilo, and poopydave's big ol' nuts! i tried to make an early exit but i guess the the bass had infected me because it took me a while to fall asleep. and right now in the office, i'm paying the price.
on saturday nite, i caught X-2 at the graumann's chinese theater. packed house, good movie, great experience all around. despite living so close to the famed venue for quite a while, i hadn't previously been to a screening there, just served up plenty of eff-you-i'm-local contempt to people who fuck up my walk to the gym whenever there's a movie premier. no matter how hard you try, it's impossible to re-create the theater experience in your own home. the movie, by the way, kicked ass. stay tuned for X-3, they totally played up the whole sequel thing with jean grey/phoenix.
come to think of it, it was a weekend of several firsts. prior to the weekend i'd never been to a comedy club in los angeles. shifty and i went to the improv on melrose and laughed our asses off thanks to mitch hedburg. pothead comedy at it's very finest. why pothead? well perhaps i saw a certain somebody sparking a bowl outside the venue when his set was over.
""i was gonna have my teeth whitened, but i said fuck it and just got a tan instead."
"i love rice. rice is great if you're hungry and want two thousand of something."
"i have a parrot that talks. but it did not say 'i'm hungry' so it died."
