Finally snake-choked my depression into submission (for now) to get my ass in gear to play music with the best players around these a-here parts. \m/
It's awesome, and I just got a call from my last band's bassist, who wants to play in this new project we're creating. So that's awesome too. These two guitarists (whom are both super talented) are both still down for the cause, so we're gonna see what we can cook up within the next couple weeks!
The one and only thing that frustrates me is that I'm not used to playing just straight thrash metal. My style is similar, but not close enough to make it an easy process. I have yet to master this particular beat we're using for the first song, and it's pissing me the fuck off! Arrgh. It's also a timing that I'm not used to playing all the time, or at least not as much as these guys stay in that mode. So I fuck up. And it makes me look bad, even though I know I'm a decent enough drummer, I can't use my usual "bag of tricks" for fills and patterns and timing signatures I'm way better at. So I can tell it mildly frustrates the guys on guitar because it slows the song creation process and bogs everything down.
But I'm gonna get my ass in gear and practice at least 1-2 hrs a day when we're not playing, cause I'm having trouble keeping up with the pace of the cardio required to play this style of metal as well! So the Geezer in me realizes I need to step up my game to keep up with the kids. (Did I mention I've probably got a decade on all the other guys?) So getting back into my routine of exercise (which rapidly declined w/the earlier depression) is key, and practicing like I'm actually dedicated to something, because we absolutely have the potential to make this become a fucking amazing band, so I'm gonna hold onto hope for now, and let it pull me out of the depression quicksand...
