UPDATE:
I just got back from the hospital.
He is pretty out of it, but is awake, aware of where he is and who's there and all that and talking.
I gave my number to his friend Matt (the one who had the key) and he said he'd call to let me know anything as soon as he found out.
Also, wanted to say that if anyone wants to talk more, dont hesitate to call. Hopefully I can do what I can to help out those who need a little extra love in this time of worry.
