I wonder who first said "when it rains, it pours"?

First, I got a book deal. Lovely. Then, they wanted two books instead of one. Excellent. Now, I've got friends and colleagues introducing me to even more editors and they ALL want to see new book proposals from me. It seems that I may end up the alt-Martha after all, instead of publishing one knitting...

Allergies. Regular blog committed a particularly gruesome form of suicide and I haven't had time to fix it. $550+ on fixing my almost-paid-off car. Dachshund who needs to go to the vet. Working on another business my boyfriend and I can run so that he can exit corporate America, stage left. I'm tired, I'm poor, I'm overbooked. Poor me, sob sob. Yeah, whatever.

My store...

Thanks for the newswire article. However, I've decided not to use it for several reasons. First, I don't necessarily trust Capitol Hill Blue as a reliable source, they're more like the Drudge report, containing a lot of innuendo and unsourced articles that later on turn out to be false. Second, as a professional in psychiatric medicine I don't want to perpetuate the stereotype that people on mood controlling drugs are somehow dangerous or unstable. So even if the president is on anti-depressants I think it sends the wrong message to tell everyone that we should all be afraid for ourselves. There are plenty of easy ways to criticize Bush, but this is one that I'd rather not engage in.

My store is open! Go buy stuff. And be sure to check out the gorgeous models...

I'm running the Cleveland edition of Bazaar Bizarre (Come sell stuff! come buy stuff! It'll be 4 December, join the mailing list. We're also looking for vendors to provide raffle prizes, entertainers and more)

Tomorrow I am going to N. Michigan for a week with my best friend and...

So what you need to do is:

-get some rhubarb, obviously (something like 5-6 stalks should be nice)
-chop-chop them to pieces
-put 3/4 of the rhubarb in a big glass jar with a tight-sitting lid
-saut the remaining rhubarb with a splash of water and some sugar, until somewhat soft, what you want is to get as much juice of it as possible
-then add all of this to the jar as well
-top with vodka/rum until the rhubarbs are covered
-dissolve as much sugar in as little water as possible- sweeten with this mixture. Youll have to taste until you get a comfortable result.
-close the lid tightly, shake the jar, leave be for 2 months
-then sieve the liquid, add more dissolved sugar if the liqueur needs more sweetening; bottle and store as long as you can. Usually, I cant, because its too damned delicious. Ive never made rhubarb liqueur before though so I cant swear its going to be good- but it turned out delicious with cherries, blueberries, plums, cranberries and rowan berries and rose petals, so high chances are that itll be nice.
smile

The mint syrup can either be done like you described, or this way- a strong mint infusion is made (I used maybe 1 cup of peppermint leaves to 3 cups of water), after two or so hours its run through a sieve, brought to medium heat and 2 cups of sugar are dissolved into it. I never get my syrups very thick, but I guess it doesnt really matter...

Much to report and too little time to expound on it all...

I finally got my publisher to go over and approve the additions I made to my book contract and (took them a MONTH).

I finally figured out all the software glitches in my store (should be open for business in a few days)

I'm running the Cleveland edition of Bazaar Bizarre (Come sell...

...for some reason, its hard for the general population to realize that those photos were taken MONTHS ago... and that people change constantly.

Good news! I'm writing not one but TWO books for the publisher I was talking about in my last entry, and possibly a series if they do well. I may need some local women to model for me - if you're near Cleveland, let me know...

My store hasn't gone live yet due to a few software glitches, but I hope to have it up...

News flash!

My store opens this week. This has been a labor of love since the beginning of the year, and I have nothing but adoration and praise for everyone who's been helping me. From the models (wait til you see who), to the artists, to the programmer and designer friends ready to step in and help when I needed them... I couldn't have done...

Starting a business is a lot of work, but very much worth it. After all, the best boss of me is...well, me.

I wish I could mind-meld with the PHP book my boyfriend bought me for Christmas, it would make the behind-the-scenes stuff so much easier.
