George Orwell stated that 2+2 can easily equal 5. All you have to do is believe it. It was this train of thought which he believed would enslave people through governmental control and media oppression.

Many philosophers have asserted that the only way to truly be free on a mental level is to follow the same (or at least a remarkably similar) thought pattern.

That's always seemed odd to me. I think I side with Orwell.
