austin and diary of dreams
remington, dale and i wanted to go to austin for the diary of dreams show, yesterday. before we left we noticed that it was 21 only, and since they're both underage, we wondered whether we should try or not. we decided that we would go, and give it the chance, hoping that it would work out.
so we drove all the way to austin, four hours, and went up to elysisum (venue) and asked a gentleman we saw coming out of it, what our chances would be, to get them in. he (i think his name is lowl) told us to come back later, and talk with the manager. we we walked to try
to find some food, and went behind the buildings to where there was a creek like river thing that you would walk along/on and followed it. we looked up to our right and saw a police station and as we traveled further, along the creek, we came across two people smoking pot underneath the bridge the police station was off of. i asked them if they didn't think that was a little dangerous. we found our way to stubb's bar and grill, which i was thoroughly diappointed by. i had a chopped brisket sandwhich, the bred was a little stale, the meat was luke warm, and the portions were horribly undersized.
after that we journeyed to the capital building and walked around in it. one of dales uncles had actually been govenor of this great state, so we found his painting, up on the wall.
we walked back to elysium and found lowl, he told us he had already talked to the manager, and that they were going to let remington and dale in. as we waited a black gentleman came up to us and inquired as to if we were "white boys or 'woods," which is short for peckerwood, and he informed us how much that mattered in prison. the salvastion army is right across the street, so there were a lot of people that didn't quite look like they were quite all there. he started looking threatening and the next thing we knew the bouncer, from the venue next door, started to step to him, the gentleman thought better of his actions and left us alone. all the while there was a middle age lady, nice looking older lady, standing next to one of the awnings poles, and i noticed her looking at us a few times. i was wondering if she was a barfly or something, but it turned out she was there for the show. she talked to us while we waited in line, which started to slowly form. some mexican guys (one wearing a hocico shirt) got in line behind us, real mexicans too.
they finally opened the venue. the lady, kathy, decided to sit with us, and the mexicans, fernando and his group, sat beside us. and after a bit of waiting the first band came on. ears to anon was their name, drummer guitarist and a young lady with an electrci cello, which was very neat. i asked fernando's friend where they had got some promo posters for the show, but it looked like they were all out, so his friend gave me his. i thought that was really cool of him, so i told them if i can find my promo hocico, icon of coil and someone else posters, that i will send them to them. dale and i stood for some of the ears to anon show, while out there a redheaded goth girl kind of sidled up to me. which was weird and i didn't know what to do. the next band came on, and she actually got on stage with them for a duran duran cover. dale asked me to buy a lady a drink, but one of our stipulations for getting in was that we weren't allowed be around the alcohol alone, and i wasn't going to take a chance, and well it's alcohol so i'm not buying it for any reason. so instead, i went over to the lady and told her my friend would like to buy her a drink, but we would get kicked out of one of us messed with the alcohol. she told me to tell him that that was very nice of him but she was tired and didn't think she could hanle one. and dale was completely dismayed that i had done that. he later went and bought her a redbull, haha.
diary of dreams came on, after the second band and had a really good set. adrian has a fantastic voice, just something about how he sings, but i was right front and center and got his crotch one too many times in my face and let remington have my spot. i wasn't feeling the crowd, and i knew he would enjoy it more, so i went towards the back and sat on the stairs to the d.j. booth, which was a great view. fantastic set, they played my favorites (amoK, the curse, butterfly:dance!) and had a really great sound.
we waited around and got autographs and photos, i wanted photos of the people we had met but my cameras battery died during the show.
remington has photos with d.o.d. of him and i, so i'll need to get those. we profusely thanked lowl, the manager and who i guess was the owner, and lowl gave us some free passes for when dale and remington turn of age, to come back. we met some really cool people from the moment we stepped out of remington's car, quite literally. so it was a great trip and a great show.
through the night, i was messaging ms. sara rose mcnutt, to see if she could do anything. she wanted us to go to san marcos, to see the new pirates movie, on saturday, but we ended up leaving right after the show. and got back here at seven in the morning.
