Here's a rant I typed up a little bit ago in the PSW group about the main chat. I thought I'd paste it here as well.

While I'm someone who truely belives that everything in the world especially people are totally chaotic and unpredictable -- that you should always expect the unexpected from people and never ever ever assume anything -- well, it's kindo like in elementary quantum physics. There's the "gas cloud" theory saying that while a particle can be anywhere at any time there are certain levels where they're more likely to exist.

It's kindo the same thing with chat. People usually go in there after work in the evening time.

If you go in there during evening time for the east-coast (afternoon time west-coast, night time for Europe, very early morning Australia) you see the freakiest of people. This is a great time to go in if you like people with no profiles IMing you to ask you to get naked (hey some people do like to be exhibitionists for anonymous people). The biggest thing I've noticed about this time is that you meet some really fucking rude ass people during this time. It's basically the fight time.

if you go in during the evening time for the west coast it's just utter chaos and PANNNNNNNDEMONEUM. Every time I go in there in the evening time pacific time after I leave I think "wait a minute ... what the fuck just happened? Why am I wearing someone elses pants? And whos pants are they? I thought I was in a damn chat room! And why are they plaid? Didn't the 70s end 30 years ago? God these things smell horrible." or something equally as weird. Trying to partake in chat during that time always spins my head around in circles and leaves me screaming for something a little slower. This is, by far, the busiest time. The people you meet around this time run the full gamut. Never expect anything at all during this time except for you to not even be able to read, let alone comprehend, half of what is said in there.

Night-time pacific time is when you see some really fun wacky stuff. Like around 9pm to 1 er 2am is when the east-coast kids that are left are starting to get WAY drunk. And the west-coast kids aren't far behind. Any time you get the coked out kids you'll usually see them around this time. They're always fun. You never know if they're gonna start slicin' themselves up or god knows what. Always something fun and amusing to see around this time.

Around 2am PST is by FAR my favorite time to show up. By this time all the coke-heads are either in the hospital or in bed and the only ones left are, for the most part, the cool people. This is the evening time in East Australia and they kindo dominate the chat room during this time. I can't tell you why but I have yet to meet one Aussie that I've disliked. I've met a few that I haven't found exceptionally kick ass, but never one that I've actually disliked. (This, however, might actually be because around this time I'm most often starting to get kind of drunk)

This is also the time when the UK kids start to wake up. Of course, when most people wake up they're not much to talk to. While there are exceptions (like Sian, good lord that woman can talk in the mornings!), most Europeans just kind of watch (often with their own cams going)

By around 5am PST (8am eastern time, 4-5pm EU time, 11pm Western Australia time) there's not much left in there. A few waking up (meaning they're even grumpier than they were before they went to sleep!) on the east-coast, a few Aussies coming back from a late night of partying, a few EU kids left over who didn't go to work or school, and of course the most hard-core of chatters like me and Sin.

This is a good time to ask if someone you know has been on. If you're asking about a regular chances are we'll know what time they were in, how they were feeling, and what they were doing and what they were going to be doing.

Then, of course, you have the time from around noon er so PST when nothing happens in there. It's just complete nothingness. If there ever is any action in there, they're usually doing maintenance on chat anyway so it's constantly kicking people out and just not a fun program to be using.

But in all honestly what you see in there will vary dramatically from day to day, and even hour to hour minute to minute. It is, after all a "gas cloud theory" and anyone can exist anywhere at any given time.

Like me. You never know what time I'll be up and about. I'm in there at all hours because I don't keep any kind of a consistent schedule.
