I always love to see people caught in the middle of something much larger than what they had anticipated. Take Duke's lacrosse debacle. Totally fucked up and everyone in it probably feels like a royal asshole for bringing a lot of negative attention to themselves, the university and Durham.
In a similar vein (at least as far as unintended consequences) the New York Times has an article about the Harvard student who is accused of plagiarising a pair of novels for her own novel. The article makes her sound like kind of a hack, and a tool at that. i understand that if you want to be famous and rich you have to play along with the people who write the checks, but honestly... copying from other semi-decent books?
As far as I know, its easy to correct this kind of error-since its not that difficult to just rewrite it or delete the 'offending' passages. But I still love meeting out some justice on a smarty-pants Ivy Leaguer.
