I see it almost every day but I don't think I've ever really noticed what I am seeing. Usually it is behind me when I sit down but today I happen to be facing it and the display is so distracting that I can barely read.

There it is, right in front of me. It's a display about eight feet high and six feet wide with about forty really big books on it. Those books have titles like "Salt To Taste", "The New Best Recipe", "Veganomicon", "The Cake Bible", "The Bread Bible", Gordan Ramsay's Maze", "Good Eats", and so on.

As if this weren't enough, to the left of the display is an entire wall, six sections with six shelves each, of cookbooks. Across from this wall is another three sections of shelving. I can't forget, behind me is another table with even more cookbooks on it.

We are bored with our food. What is one of our most basic necessities has been turned into yet another way to entertain us. It s not enough for us to enjoy the abundance God has blessed us with. No, we have this need to turn it into a 350 page book on how to make cupcakes. Thousands upon thousands of people in the world are living on what is called a starvation diet. That means that, though they might ocassionally get a bite to eat, they are not getting enough to survive. They are slowly, gradually starving to death. Meanwhile I can pick up "1001 Foods You Must Taste Before You Die" for the low price of $36.95. That's more than the cost of sponsoring a child, providing them with foor, medicine, and an education for a month.

Something has gone seriously wrong. Why do we have to make even the most basic things so complicated? I could go across the street to Wegmans or Walmart and I'm sure there's at least a dozen choices for my water preferences.
Water.
For goodness sake, it's water!

What is next, offering different classes on how to breathe? No, wait... that's Yoga.

Something...
Is seriously...
Wrong.

But before I get too judgemental, there is one more basic necessity in life even more essential than food, water, or breathing. How often do I go about trying to complicate it?
