Daniel Patrick Moynahan once said that to be Irish is to know the world is someday going to break your heart. That, for better or worse, has pretty much summed up my worldview. But today I'm gonna allow the better angels of my nature to have their day. I'm putting my cynicism away to say a silent prayer for a better world.

I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

What's your favourite season of Buffy?
yulia:
ME TOO!!!
When I was a kid I'd spend my summers at my grandmother's house in Budd Lake, NJ. The days were long. I spent my time with my sister, my cousin, and the kids on the street. We had nothing to do but watch the clouds roll by. We'd hike in the woods. We'd spend the days at the lake, hanging out on the shore, trying...

Christmas always reminds me of my worst memory ever:
Once, when I was in high school my dad bought be a mogwaii, which is a very cute little creature that only came with 3 rules:
don't get it wet
don't feed it after midnight
and keep them away from Corey Feldman
Well I did all 3 and suddenly my town was overrun by horrible Gremlins....

Ok, so there's a new hot pretzel store in my town. I'm obsessed. I mean, I go like 3 times a week.
The thing is that they're not part of a chain or anything. And they give HUGE hot pretzels for $2! $2!!!
The thing is that I'm worried that they won't be around very long. This is no time to start a new business....

Mmmmm, they sound yummy. Look on the bright side, if they went out of business, you could buy all their stuff and make your own ones all day every day!

Can your first mission be starting up a business over here, we don't get them over here really
I read this morning that Alyssa Milano had to get a restraining order against some guy who was obsessed with her. Turns out that the guy was obsessed with Tiffany too. I was like, "Umm...I think that might be me"
I should look into that. And yeah, after all these years I'm still totally hot for Alyssa Milano. Have you ever seen "Embrace of the...

John Lennon was murdered 28 years ago today.
I actually remember that day. I know that dates me. I was 7 years old. The Beatles were the first music I remember being aware of. My sister and I used to stand on our parents bed and sing Beatles songs into the bedposts (which looked to us like microphones). My older cousin Brendan was (and is)...

I definitely agree with you.
I am good. Except for the fucking snow today! Living in the country does suck in some ways after all.
How are you?

I called an actor tonight who was cast for the show I'm working on this past Monday. Monday. It's now Wednesday. I called to tell him when he'd be working and get him a script. He said he had no idea what I was talking about.
I said "I have a deal memo here that says you've been cast on the show?"
"No idea. What...

so, I should be an actress, is that what you're tellin me?
acacia:
That's mainly what we sang. That, and "Chain of Fools." Both equally fantastic songs.
I was gonna ask you all how your Thanksgivings were, but then I realized that most of the people I talk to on this site are non US-Americans. So in case you don't know, Thanksgiving is the holiday here where we eat a lot to celebrate that fact that American Indians gave us a lot of food and were really nice to us before we...

I've never been to an opera; and my attention span barely lasts through a hour and 45 minute movie. I'd start writing on my hand and making sock puppets.

Thank you! I've been a year with endless problems with my internet connection. It had been ok for a month now so I thought I wouldn't have trouble about it anymore, but it seems I was wrong... so you see, I'm quite desperate.
My phone, for reasons I don't quite understand, came with a number of "quick texts" saved that I would presumably like to send to people. They include:
"What's Up?"
"Check This Out!"
"Whatcha doing?"
"What do you think?"
"You're the best!"
and
"You gotta be here!"
Apparently my phone thinks I'm the most boring person in the world.
So I got the new Guns n'...

Our friends at the previously great magazine Rolling Stone have come down from on high to tell us who the greatest singers of all time are. It's completely subjective, of course. And I don't think we're talking about songwriters or performers or anything like that. Just the voice. I like that they have Aretha in there. But some of the other picks blow, of...

oh thank youu!!!
I'm so sorry for your loss, it's a beautiful thing that you keep your friends light burning with your memories.
Thank you for your kind words on my latest blog, and the picture accompanying it.
I'd been sat outside reading, and had just finished my book when I took that picture. It seemed fitting to quote a passage from the book with the picture, I was contemplating it at the time and it goes hand in hand with some recent events.
I was taught about Martin Luther King in school in the UK, and we did study the entire speech but it was quite some time ago. I enjoyed reading it again.
That said, it isn't common to be taught in depth over here, which is a great shame, as there is so much to learn on so many levels.
I'm glad that you're well. I'm doing ok, anticipating life's curve balls
xo
