so i unloaded that crummy apartment. the guy was actually way laid-back about it, didn't even mind that i hadn't finished painting. but now i'm back where i started, looking for a place, with only 18 days left. no problem, right?

That's cool that you didn't get a lot of grief about backing out. Good luck with your search! With the number of jobless people in this town, you'd think there'd be quite a few vacant apartments as people were forced to move elsewhere, get a place with roommates or move back with the parents.
