Off to San Francisco. It's been entirely too long since my last road trip.

I haven't been up there for pleasure in yonks, so I have nothing secret or special to share. My recommendation would be for you to find something of your own to recommend to me. wink

Ever notice in mid-stumble how time seems to skip a moment and then snap into coarse flow mode? As if the brain were rerouting around its filters. Welcome to direct sensory input. Now stop falling.

Yeah, I know. It's still a believe-it-when-I-see-it deal. Grand P.R. and glossy, grandiose press releases are a lot cheaper and easier to do than actually putting a bunch of finished cars in the hands of end users.

Tesla is further along than Fisker, but Fisker is in bed with GM to some extent, which could be a huge advantage if GM shares some technology from the Volt. That's a big if, though.

I feel ashamed that I only know Mandlebrot for the fractal and Adams for Hitchhikers Guide in that case! Perhaps I will get on to their other other areas one day though, there is so much to read and learn! Thank you for the wise words anyway, I'm sure you will enjoy your ten year plan :-)

Saw two movies in the last two days and thoroughly enjoyed both.

The new Bond is very smart. The action scenes are quick, brutal, and unornamented, leaving ample time for character development. None of it is squandered. There are nods to the Bond formula, but it's first and foremost a believable, tightly scripted action film. Do see.

Then before that was Repo: The Genetic Opera,...

In and out of the polls in 30ish minutes in Echo Park.
How about you?

Postscript: I am also deeply amused that the votes will be counted on Guy Fawkes Day.

Post-postscript:Election day and the market is continuing it's rebound. Coincidence, or does Wall Street like the expected outcome of this election?

Post-post-postscript:
Looks like all the swing states that could tip this away from...

After much bloodannoyance, sweat, and tearsstress, I am finally out of the old apartment.

Next up: the conversion of My Crap into My Stuff. (i.e. Unpacking boxes so they stop being clutter and transform into neatly shelved enjoyable artifacts.)

Saw this one coming.

I was banking with WaMu.

WaMu got bought out by J.P. Morgan-Chase.

Today I went into the bank to order a replacement ATM card.

"This will only take 3 minutes."

Before I got out the door they had me sitting in front of a salesman, trying to sign me up for a credit card. He printed off a sheet for me...

Signed and handed over the check for the new apartment.

Got ten days of overlap between when the new place starts and the old place ends, and the two places are only a couple miles apart. Moving should be easier than usual. Still, anybody want to help me lug a king size futon into a UHaul and out again?

Yep. There was much running around to secure proper tools to cut down my chain, but once all that drama was taken care of things went better. Nothing like breaking three tools in a row and chasing several sets from three different stores , using an entire day to accomplish what should have been an hour job, tops.

The View From My Block On the Economic Crisis

Many things become obvious when you have a high school level understanding of arithmetic and you use it. Take this rule of thumb: On a moderate interest 30 year loan, you will pay around three times the list price of the home you took the loan out for when all is said and done. Let me...

That is an interesting point indeed, a different way to look at it. It can be great if your part in the machine is enjoyable to you. Thanks for the fascinating input, it is certainly something to think about!
