GenCon was huge. I still have to hold out PAX Prime as my favorite of the game conventions, but after one GenCon, I'm already making plans for the next. I got to meet a ton of the folks who pitched in to make my game happen on Kickstarter, and many of my other designers whose games and KS campaigns I'd studied and enjoyed. My favorite moments were the late nights at the UnPub (unpublished games) tables, trying out prototypes with the designers whose work I've enjoyed.

It's been four long days and my voice sounds like I've been gargling gravel. I'm coming away from the con with happy memories, too little sleep, and a suitcase full of new games I'm excited to get on the table. It's the way it should be.

You are far more well-traveled than I, sir, and moreover I am not qualified to give opinions on getting out of the cold: Essen weekend I'll be heading to Yellowstone / Montana. On purpose. So really, Norway sounds just about right to me smile Or Iceland, with its geothermal pools and unearthly landscapes.

But the south of Europe, and knowing you dislike Spain... what about Sicily? (disclaimer: my current bedside table reading is on the Normans.) Or Montenegro, along the Adriatic Sea? I expect both would be well equipped to handle foreign visitors, but decidedly off-season - perhaps some small respite from the fact of being a walking dollar sign in a tourist destination.

There is also Greece, of course, which i don't know the first thing about, except that it is a nation lacking for visitors this year. Strikes me as an excellent time to go. Perhaps Mr. Edison could be of further assistance.

Israel before it gets blown up - Tel Aviv for its crazy nightlife. Egypt sounds like it's turning to shit, to me... do be careful if you choose Egypt. But also, take lots of pictures, ne? No matter where you go.
