Learning craft gives me an appreciation for the care that goes into even the simplest seeming things. For a box where the wood grain wraps around the outside without seam, the board is turned inside out; unfolded by a saw blade. This way, the grain of the two inner faces will wrap around at the end. Before this can happen, the board must already be a precise length: that of the final circumference of the box, plus just so much as the width of the saw blade will churn into dust as the pieces are cut from it. And before the board is even to this stage, it may be trimmed four or more times, from the rough size, to the final polished piece, with more in between to straighten it as the freshly cut face dries to match the side that was already exposed, or as stresses in the wood are cut free from the counter-stresses that held them straight before.
