That's why I'm excited to read the following:
The Prisoner remake news
The 2009 mini-series of the The Prisoner will feature six one-hour episodes, all written by Bill Gallagher (Clocking Off; Conviction; Lark Rise to Candleford). Sir Ian McKellen (The Lord of the Rings; The Da Vinci Code) is in the role of Number Two and James Caviezel (Deja Vu; The Passion of the Christ) plays Number Six. The producer is Trevor Hopkins (Dracula; Agatha Christie: Poirot; William and Mary) and direction is by Jon Jones (Cold Feet; Northanger Abbey; Diary of Anne Frank). Location filming is in Namibia and Cape Town, with shooting commencing in the first week of August, 2008. The "pacy, radical reinvention of the original show" is a joint production between AMC (American Movie Channel) and ITV (UK).
The original series proposed to the BBC 40ish years ago was only meant to be 7 episodes, but executives wanted a full series. That they;re cutting back to 6 episodes suggests that they're in the original mindset, plus cuttning out the final one. (The final episode of the series was so unsatisfying to the already perplexed audience that there were, quite literally, riots, and the show's creators had to leave England for some months while things quited down.)
On a related sneaky-spy note, from the webpage of Secrecy, the Movie:
In a single recent year the U.S. classified about five times the number of pages added to the Library of Congress. We live in a world where the production of secret knowledge dwarfs the production of open knowledge.
