i really don't think it's the pregnancy thing. i think it's just part of life. i wasn't talking about myself.

Yeah I don't know I've never had anything like this before, I guess it started as a UI and has spread to my kidneys :-( Hopefully these antibiotics will sort it out in the next few days. Ah damn you are in Helsinki and I'm in bed with a kidney infection, cruel world!! Although it doesn't sound like you're enjoying it quite as much as some of the other places...

Thank you. I like it how every time I see you posting your location has changed! I've only been to Amsterdam and Stockholm of those cities but they're both amazing, have a great time.

A day in Monaco

I took a day trip to Monaco from Nice. I actually like Nice more, though it's not as given to pretty pictures. Nice just gets down to the business of having lots of public beaches with blue crystal water, 96 flavors of gelato, painting supply shops, and all else fun in life.

But Monaco looks better in pictures. So on to...

Do you have a Eurail pass? And if so, did they tell you the train was full? The same thing happened to me, and I lost out on the bed I paid for in Lyon, which in turn made me miss Chamonix and a cable car over Mont Blanc. It was the first and last time I allowed that to happen.

If you're in France and you're told that the train is full, what they really mean is "we have a set number of spaces for railpass holders, there are no more of those spaces, and we don't want to give you a seat that may be purchased for actual money."

If you really need to get on that train, then go ahead and do so. When asked for your ticket, tell them that you have a railpass and you'd like to pay for your reservation now. It'll cost more, but at least you'll actually be on the train; the conductor knows nothing of these ridiculous railpass restrictions.

People keep giving me these fantastic recommendations for places to go in cities after I'm already planning the exit to the next city.

So here's the next couple stops from here:

Nice
Monaco
Barcelona

Probably winging further down the Spanish coast from there plotting a route to Marrakech. Or I may turn north and head for Scandinavia by way of BeNeLux (Amsterdam, Luxembourg City) and...

Nice: Castle Hill (Colline du Chateau)
Go in the morning to experience the fog and the mist up there... fuckin gorgeous. Stick around long enough for the clouds to dissipate and see the best view in all of Nice. Of course no trip to Nice is complete without some beach time. wink

Monaco:
If you took some nice clothes, go gamble James Bond style for the rest of us gentlemen. Don't miss the Monte Carlo Opera House, and other spiffy bits of architecture.

Barcelona:
Check out Gaudi's glorious madness. If you're feeling particularly adventurous, you should walk the Santiago Trail.

If you end up going to Scandinavia, please bring home Bang Chau.

We'll have to come back to Vienna. For now, let's stay in the present.

Rome.

So I'm a wee bit of a history nerd. Too much D&D as a youth to not know about gladiation, a year of Latin somewhere in middle school, you get the picture. Rome is one of those cities where it's not just "Oh look, another statue of someone I've never...

In Rome.

Lost my power adapter in VIenna. More sizable update awaiting getting a new one of those. Photo editing in Aperture makes the 8 hour battery on my Mac a 4 hour battery, yo.
