I'm certain you are aware of the recent events that occurred at Virginia Tech. And I'm sure you are aware that after times like these, America's whistleblowers crawl out of their floral-patterned wrapped shanties to start pointing fingers. Whether it is the hamburger-spit-filled words of Michael Moore, the elongated labia of Ann Coulter, or of course, Jack Thompson_they all have a common scapegoat: Video Games. "Mario is the reason why the homosexual percentage of Italian-Americans is so high". "Grand Theft Auto is the reason why Hispanic and Latino teenagers steal so many cars and kill so many hookers". "Star Fox is the reason why kids dress up as barn-yard animals and fly intergalactic space vehicles in hopes of defeating the evil Andross before he launches an attack against planet Corneria". "Poor house decoration; sex only in the missionary position, and children walking only forward and horizontally, but never backwards and diagonal is a result of the popular computer game, The Sims". Video games account for any and all conceivable problems that now occur in the USA according to these quasi-conservative retards.
Of course after the horrific issue surrounding the shootings at Virginia Tech, Jack Thompson, a lawyer who was instrumental in numerous cases regarding video game ratings, blamed the shootings on the violence that children are exposed to in video games. On the day of the shooting Jack Thompson was interviewed on Fox News. He explained that school shootings are a result of these mislead teenagers being "trained" by games like Doom, Counter Strike and Grand Theft Auto. I'm sorry "trained"? Jack, c'mon, you're breaking my balls here. They are using a fucking mouse, not a goddamn gun. Most of the games that he mentioned are based in a futuristic scenario, or in a scenario that isn't even remotely close to a school-shooting idea. So I'm not entirely sure that being trained to thwart off covenant forces from a different planet is the same as being trained to kill students at a school.
Now, I do agree with Jack Thompson on some aspects. I do agree that having ratings on games, much like what is implemented for movies, is worthwhile. I agree that until they are sought fit, kids shouldn't have to deal with mature ideals. However, I do not agree that school shootings are a result of the said video games. I believe that video games with violence, including shooting, do not affect or warp minds. Moreover, it is the nature of the RPG (Role-Playing Game) that is indeed the culprit behind issues such as these. An example of said genre is World of Warcraft, the most popular online game in the world. In this game, like many other RPGs, you are forced to play hundreds of hours in a month in order to succeed in the hierarchy of players. There is little violence_only fantasy style_so, I wonder, how are these games killing kids? As mentioned, there is a huge demand for the player's time, so much so that the some players will leave social circles that they were in at their school. They gain weight, eating only pizza. Their relationship with their parents deteriorates. Their pants become covered in urine, semen and fecal matter and they develop bedsores from their office chair. They use Internet jargon in real-life.
Now counter strike players, these guys look semi-normal. It is the first examples, the RPGs, that are catalysts to issues such as Virginia Tech or Dawson College. Kimveer Gill, the shooter at Dawson College, wrote in his blog about how addicted he was to World of Warcraft.
Jack Thompson should look into the social aspects of these kids' lives rather than pointing the finger of blame at fantasy-like violence in games with scenarios that are extremely unrealistic.
