One of my good friends from high school just got engaged. They have been dating (in a long distance relationship, no less) for all of three months. The cynic in me thinks it won't work out, but the romantic in me hopes to hell that it will. My friend is an awesome guy, deserving of an awesome partner, so here's hoping this chick fits the...

good friends in Eugene tat host a big Thanksgiving dinner. we always make the sya trip to portland.
obd:
oh, I might spend a day in Portland before I go to Eugene. I'd like to explore a bit on my own. Depends on when I manage to beat this bug.
Well, Guided by Voices show #1 and night #1 of me staying up really late didn't really work.
For starters, I should have taken a nap as soon as I got home from work. I didn't. At the show, I attempted alertness by having a Coke, knowing my body's incredibly high intolerance to caffeine. It didn't work. I ended up leaving about 12:30 and going...

They really need to make "I got my ass kicked at a gbv show" t-shirts.

It sounds like your Tuesday was just like my Wednesday! I didn't get to bed until 2:30 I was so charged up by the show I couldn't sleep. I wish I hadn't missed Monday. The second show was amazing! I'm sure glad EnergyChannel was there.
It's been a fun weekend so far. Last night we attended someone's 40th birthday party where our friends the Stan McMahon band were playing. It had been awhile since I had heard Stan, and they put on a really good show, considering it was in someone's basement and all. The birthday girl's house was so beautiful, a restored early 1900s style with cool architectural details...

I like your new haircut. I am trying to be brave enough to cut mine like I have always wanted, but it's getting cold here and I king of like the extra warmth.

More gray on my friends list every day, it seems. Makes me sad. I'm still debating whether or not to sign up again, as I'll be going gray myself whenever SG gets around to it. Compelling arguments for sticking around?
We are preparing for a busy weekend, with one of EnergyChannel's oldest and bestest friends coming to visit. They are anxiously awaiting the two Guided...

My download is done. Now it's just a waiting game.
There are still ways you can be and active part of your boyfriend's life after Half-Life 2 comes out. Yes, he won't be speaking much, and eye contact will be rare; but he will still need you. Mid-game massages to work out sore shoulders, refills of his Moutain Dew or coffee, late night orders of pizza, shooing away unwanted visits by friends and relatives, these things will not only enhance his Half-Life 2 experience, but may provide your next two weeks (or so) with meaning.

Officemate loved Neko Case, as I figured she would. How can you not love Neko Case, really?
For those of you concerned about EnergyChannel's current state of grayness, it's purely financial. He may or may not renew right now, but he probably will in the future when things like rent, bills and food aren't such a pressing priority. In the meantime, I can pass along...

Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed our vodka. It was great meeting you guys. I hope we can hang out again soon. Next time I will be sure and bring two bottles!
Sorry about the grayness of EnergyChannel. These are crazy times.

Can you pass along a swift kick in the balls?
Thanks dear!

Officemate update: Nick Drake and Rosie Thomas went over very well. Less so for the Shins. Today I'm bringing Iron and Wine, South, Neko Case and a few others. We shall see.
I'm so glad my work computer currently has 29 gigs free.

My 50-something somewhat conservative officemate asked me to bring in music to enrich our current selection of Norah Jones, Beethoven, and George Harrison. I'm starting slow, with some Rosie Thomas, Postal Service, Nick Drake, etc. Later, I'll see if I can work her up to Stereolab, TV on the Radio, and Delgados. Baby steps, guys. Baby steps to cast off the shackles of mediocre music....

Tonight, a distraction from politics in the form of a kickass band from New York: TV on the Radio.
When we saw them a few months ago, they blew me away. So awesome. Now they are opening for The Faint. It seems wrong that they are the opener, but if that means I get home earlier and get more sleep, I'm all for it.

Oh no worries. I'm sure they'll be back sooner than later.

At the same time, why didn't Kerry raise more of a fuss about this a year ago? We all remember the CEO of Diebold proclaiming his loyalty to Bush, holding a huge fundraiser for him, and still this story failed to make many waves in the mainstream media. It was mentioned briefly, but was quickly painted as a conspiracy theory and...

cute new profile pic indeed. no, not canada, although I did hear on npr today that they're getting streams of immigration enquiries. I'm going across the pond.
I have a bumper sticker on my car that says "Impeach that son of a Bush." I guess it gets to stay on there for FOUR MORE YEARS.
So the smile in my profile pic is obviously from a happier time. Right now I just want to hang my head and weep for the future of America.
How difficult is it to move to Canada...

Well, at least there will be an apocolypse in my lifetime. I was worrying I wouldn't live to see the end times.
