For the second time this year, France is facing barbaric terrorists tonight once more.... Je tiens à exprimer mon soutien au peuple français et mes plus sincères condoléances aux victimes, qui se comptent par dizaines.

No I'm not in the military. In thought about it younger, but I choose to follow my true passion: History. Since I'm very touched by the ideologies of Antiquity, you can I presume, say I'm a patriot, but in an anachronistic way ;)

I know I'm a bit late, but I'll try to compensate with some unexpected history.

Has anyone ever wondered why we celebrate the new year on the first of January? It has nothing to do with religion, may it be christianity or more traditional (I hate the word "pagan", but I may digress) religions, nor with the seasons. January takes place after the winter soltice...

When Christianity became the official religion of the Empire; the authorities decided to put the birth of Christ the same day as Mytra's, in order to weaken the strongly establish religion and in time to replace it. To conclude, you have to thank the roman imperial church for this day festivities.
