Hiya !
So, as a cinema student, I couldn't pass on this week homework from @missy and @rambo ! But I must admit, it's quite hard for me to pick only ONE movie. Like, impossible, in fact. But I'll try anyway !
So, cinema as always been a huge part of my life as my mother is a total film-lover. We used to go to the movies every sunday and watch a lot of them at home too ! She took part in the creation of a art house theater and has a way bigger knowledge than I do haha ! Anyway, that's probably what influenced my studies choice :)
When I started studying cinema, I used to go to uni's library and borrow a lot of movies. There were so many movies that I wanted to see and I didn't know how to choose, so I decided to operate by filmmakers :) And my favourite one is still Takeshi Kitano ! And especially...
Kikujiro
This movie pretty much sums up everything I love about Kitano. It's bittersweet, tender, hilarious, beautiful... I just love Kitano's humor, he doesn't make you feel like an idiot who needs explanations, it's subtle, it's there, and doesn't even need words. It doesn't need overacting, it's just in the eyes of the actors, in their absence of reaction. I just love it. And everything is pure poetry. Ugh, I need to watch this movie again !
You know it's the kind of movie that makes you smile, cry, laugh, and generally feel good. The relationship between the two characters is just so precious ! And Joe Hisaishi's music...Aaaaah, he's the best !
I could talk about Kitano for hours, he's just my very favourite. Everytime I see him on screen, I just want to hug him haha ! His eyes say so much and he's fascinating. You just have to watch his movies and read a bit about him :)
But as I said, I couldn't pick only one movie ! There are so many movies that defines me, my personality, my humor, and so on...So let's say that Kikujiro is my very favourite (because it's all there, everything I like !) and make a short list of the movies that will be by my side for life, shall we ?
Tekkonkinkreet : My favourite animation movie. The introduction pretty much sums up the quality of the whole movie. It's an adaptation of Taiyō Matsumoto's manga (which is my favourite as well, along with One Piece) and it's just...Wow. Plaid's music is beautiful and incredibly good, and the animation quality is beyond words. I love everything about this movie. And I'm so glad that every friend to whom I advised to watch it fell in love with it, they are all obsessed as I am, now :D
Hook : I just love Peter Pan and when I was young, I wanted Robin Williams to be my father (pretty much because my actual father is the same kind of person Williams used to play haha, like in Mrs Doubtfire). Seriously though, Hook makes me cry everytime. EVERY FUCKING TIME. I just love it so, so much. I will never get tired of watching it.
Braveheart : Because William Wallace, right ? This movie kills me everytime. John William's music is just. Oh my god. And we watched it so many times with my mother and brother when I was a child, and how I laughed and cried and aaaaah. Yeah, Braveheart.
Matrix : I remember the first time I saw this movie when it came out haha. WHAAAAAT ? I just never experienced something like this, ever. And that's when I fell in love with Keanu Reeves. Still the first in my heart, love you Keanu !
Se7en : In my opinion, this movie is a masterpiece. Everytime I watch it, I just love it more. The actors are juste incredible, the scenario is genius, the light incredible and god, the details ! It's just flabbergasting.
Mononoke Hime : The first Miyazaki I saw and wow, what a shock ! I won't start on Hisaishi's work here, because it's just timeless and epic and it makes me cry and gives me shivers. I don't even know what to say about this movie, it's just a must see.
Romeo + Juliet : It's just such a good idea to keep the original dialogues and to give a modern version of this classic story ! Di Caprio is so good in it and the music ! Luhrmann is so good at picking great music (I mean, Moulin Rouge, right ?) and the introduction of the boys is perfect. And no need to mention that Tybalt and Mercutio are my favourite characters, right ? So dapper and crazy and aah.
In the name of the father : Top quality story, top quality acting, no need to say more. Daniel Day-Lewis and Pete Postlethwaite are two of my favourite actors and they are just flawless here.
The silence of the lambs : A timeless classic. Hopkins' Lecter is fascinating and I will never get tired of it. One of my childhood favourites movies. Is it wrong that I used to love thrillers when I was a kid ?
Léon : Once upon a time, Besson was a good filmmaker. And Léon is one of his best movies. And one of my childhood favourites as well. Really, should I be worried ?
Rear Window : I LOVE Hitchcock and I love huis-clos. So yeah, that's my favourite Hitchcock ever.
So these are movies that are a special part of my life. Maybe not the best movies ever but I have a soft spot for them, because most of them I saw with my family and are attached to a very particular memory, sensations, emotions from the past and moments I spent with my family in front of them. We watched them so many times that they're part of our family identity, tradition. You know the feel ? These movies are : Hook, Braveheart, Matrix, Se7en, The silence of the lambs and Léon.
As for the rest of them, they are movies that just made me love cinema, amongst so, so many more obviously ! But they are so different and sum up what I love most about cinema ! But you know, I could go on for hours and talk to you about movies from Wes Anderson or David Lynch or Terry Gilliam or Quentin Tarantino and so many more ! These are just special movies to me :)
Hope you liked it !
Apart from that, I shot a friend of mine last week ! He asked me to do it because he's a musician and and singer and will play at the Worldwide Celebration of Music ("Fête de la musique" in french) and will use one of our photos as his visual :) I'm quite pleased with the result, what do you think ? He chose the first one :)
(My very favourite -above-)
Last month I got the pleasure to see my dear @bamgirl <3 I just love to hang out with her, she's so interesting and know her shit when it comes to analogic photography !
And I finally edited photos from a shoot I did at mine with Rachel, a sweet girl who wanted to give it a try ! She's a stunner !
Also I wanted to thank you again for the constant love on @skye_'s set, I really hope it'll make her pink because damn, she deserves it so much ! Total SG material : funny, sexy, smart, and those eeeyes...The whole package, yeah ? And both her sets are doing so well in MR, I think she'd make a stellar SG, as she's already so popular as a hopeful :) Let's make her pink !
And that's all folks ! See ya !
