I've been trying to fill in some of the gaps in my profile, and I am still really confused by the 'pidgeonholes' category. If I try to think of a few one-word labels to apply to myself, none of them are on the list. Never mind; let's try the ones that are there. Turns out that's not much easier. Do these apply or not? I'm just not sure.
I DJ for my local swing & blues dance scene, occasionally at dance events outside my local scene, and for two-monthly swing nights at a local pub. Does that count? Or is it supposed to mean that I play and mix electronic dance music in clubs, or scratch records to make hip-hop? I don't do that.
How about this one: 'cat person'. Yeah, OK, I like cats. And I'm not a big fan of dogs so if I had to take sides in that particular bullshit argument it wouldn't be hard to pick. But I don't have any pets at the moment (not an option under our tenancy agreement) and I don't miss having a cat. I like seeing my mother's cats when I visit my parents, but I'm fine living without my own. So maybe that doesn't fit either.
Night Owl? Yeah, OK. I don't have quite the energy for all-nighters that I used to, but I'm still more inclined to be active in the evening than in the day. And mornings can go fuck themselves. I'll take that one.
Professional? Well, I have a job, I guess. I don't think this quite fits, though
Gamer? If this were referring to tabletop wargames and RPGs then it would definitely fit, but I think this refers to videogames. OK, yeah, I do play videogames. I used to play them a lot. But really I only play on a casual basis these days; I don't have time for more than that. It's not really a major hobby any more, just something I dabble in from time to time. Not sure it really counts.
Techie? Does this mean theatre technician? If so then no. Otherwise maybe, kind of? Probably not.
Tattooed/pierced? Well, I do have both tattoos and piercings. But not that many. I have three piercings: one nipple; a rook piercing in one ear, and my tongue. Tattoo-wise all I have so far is a pair of musical symbols on my wrists, although I would like to get more. Also, all of them were done within the last few months, so they haven't really been a big part of my life so far. Does that count?
I don't think I'm particularly special or unique. But I am having some difficulty fitting myself into any of these boxes.
