I just got back from rollerblading for the first time in my life. I never got into it when it was a fad in the early 90s, or for exercise (when I probably needed it) during the late 90s and early 00s, and since then I've just kinda forgot about it. Some friends of mine are getting married next month, and their bachelor/batchelorette party is at (get this) a skate rink a few miles from here. So I thought now was a good a time to teach myself how to rollerblade as any.
Everyone kept telling me it's just like ice skating, but in my thus far limited experience, that's bullshit. Ice skating is much, much more difficult than rollerblading. I had a hard time skating around here because of all the construction; there's all kinds of pebbles all over the roads and suchlike. There's a lot of uphill/downhill going on here, so I have to find a better place to skate.
Oddly enough, my ankles aren't sore like they have been after I've tried to ice skate in the past. In fact the only real uncomfortable thing about the whole ordeal was that kneepads and elbowpads are *very* uncomfortable to wear.
So like, go me, and stuff.
