- Metamorphosis -
I glance at the faded photograph,
And see innocent blue eyes,
Staring up at me.
Holding the tattered yellow blankie,
She carried everywhere.
A big toothy smile,
Lights up her young face,
As she shakes her silver rattle.
Her blonde hair has grown longer,
All the way down to her waist.
Shes posed with her mother, sister and brother.
She dressed in pastel,
Holding an Easter basket,
Full of candy-filled eggs.
Her lips are turned upward,
In a sort of half-smile,
Like shes just going through the motions.
Another page turns,
A skinnier face,
With hair darker and shorter,
Her mouth is imitating a smile.
But, her eyes are dull,
And her face is like a slab of marble.
Cold, hard lines,
Battle hardened and ready for more.
She faces the world every day.
Only to hear the hate they spew,
Criticizing whom she loves.
To them, she is a freak.
In their world,
She doesnt belong.
