I am sitting here at my table.. like I do every night, thinking about things.. like i do every night. I think about life. I think about death. I think about dreams.

We set a goal before us, a dream, to give a sense of meaning to our life. A chosen direction. An identity. A way of belonging. Something I have always considered weird though.. how most people seem to think they can achieve happiness through some preset standard placed by others. That you can be happy if you earn enough money, drive a big enough car, and have a sound enough family. And people BELIEVE the lie. How can one scenario work for everyone? WE are all individuals, each brought up differently with our own hates and pleasures. How can ONE answer fit for every person? IT CAN'T. Why are we so driven to succeed? To achieve a dream that is not even our own? What if one was happy being alone, eating one meal a day, working at ones craft? Why strive for more if you are content with what you have?

Our society does not teach contentment. It preaches the gospel of MORE. More money. More possessions. Newer, Faster, Stronger. All other things are left behind in a wake of dissatisfaction and obsolecense, whether it be objects.. ideas.. or PEOPLE. Stop and look around you. Look at what you have. Do you need more? Do you need the better computer? Or the nice car? The beautiful wife/handsome husband and house, complete with 2.5 kids and white picket fence? Are these YOUR dreams or ones that have been grafted into your brains by friends.. teachers.. parents.. TV?

I'm not saying that WE know what will make us happy more than any other person might.. I'm just saying that maybe its not so important to win. To succeed.. in whose sight? Are you so obssessed with what OTHERS think of you? Just some things to think about the next time you consider what you really want out of life, or when your parents or teachers push you to do something you dont want. Maybe you would be happy just sitting in a room drawing all day, getting your ideas out of your head. I know I am.blush

What is YOUR dream? confused

Hmm...I was flipping through journal and I read this one. Really liked it so I guess I will respond to the question at the end of it since it got me thinking.
As far as what my dream would be. . . I dream of the impossible. To be or not to be in a certain sense but much closer to trying to be both at the same time. I dream of being a pardox, an enigma beyond human understanding. That, I think, that is the only way to truly be free.
Otherwise we are either struggling to define ourselves as more then others or scrambling to hide our differences and trying to be exactly like everyone else. Both bring anxiety because we can never truly seperate ourselves from others and our communities . . . and our past and we can never get rid of that last shred of individuality and just dive into the crowd.
