It's only Friday and I've already had one of the best weekends of my life.
Wednesday night I went to see Digger and the Pussycats, a guitarist and a drummer who plays the most minimal kit I've ever seen - just a floor tom and a snare, and a crash. He plays it standing up, which allows for Rock Moves like spinning round while playing, and he manages to get a massive sound out of it.
After spending the night in some apartment in the city, I got home in the early afternoon on Thursday, took a nap and headed out to St Kilda to go to Rare Records and see Horse the Band's all ages show. Less than 20 people rocked up, so it was the most intimate gig I've ever seen. The gig was awesome, and the icing on the cake was that the drummer from The Number Twelve Looks Like You was playing with them!!! I don't know what happened to their drummer, but apparently he only had a week to learn the songs. It occasionally showed, but mostly he was fucking awesome, of course.
Then I headed home for a shower, touched up my hawk and got a lift out to Northcote Social Club to see Future of the Left. Unfortunately My Disco was the support act... god they're shit. They used to be cool, and now they just play the same riff for 5 minutes. It's fucking dumb, and it's not fair that they can release an album of that shit and get away with it. Anyway, Future of the Left came on and fucking rocked, and they even played a McLusky song in the encore, which I never thought would happen. The end of the show was great, they were playing a big rock ending and Falco finshed and was trying to get the others to shut up, so he started dismantling the drummer's kit while he was going sick on it, until he was down to just the snare.
My neck is really sore from all the headbanging I've done.
Tonight I'm seeing Horse the Band again, at the Espy, then tomorrow morning I leave for the Golden Plains festival.
What an awesome weekend.
