"The seven white men vying for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination haven't done much better. They have also said virtually nothing about affirmative action, the HIV/AIDS epidemic, double-digit black unemployment and education reform. They get away with this 'say little and do less' about urban problems by painting nightmare visions to blacks of Bush unleashing an all-out blitz on civil rights, social and education programs. Their message is, "Blindly back a Democrat or else." " -"Blacks shouldn't bail democrats out of recall mess", Earl Ofari Hutchinson.

This sums up my problem with not only rhe democratic party, but most cultural dissidents and self-proclaimed progressives. They live their philosophical, spiritual, and ethical lives leaning against a strawman. There was an article about in the Baffler a while back, about the marketable construction of a fascist conservative stereotype. Yeah, it's true that we have a terrible president right now and that there are terrible men and women who want the government to legislate a "return" to some mythic golden age that never was.

However, I find most people struggle to shout out how terrible this world is and how terrible the conservatives are but always fail to offer alternatives or ideas on how to better this world. The extent of their efforts is limited to complaining, but not offering any solutions.

And yeah, this is essentially just complaining. But this is a journal entry, so I think I can get away with it.
