Hello one and all.

The story thus far:

2004 Person of the Year: JEREMY PAXMAN
2004 Villianous Sod of the Year: JONATHAN QUINN

Up next:

Best Song I've Heard This Year: Down Payment Blues by AC/DC / Counting On Me by Korn (tie)

This was Down Payment Blues all the way. I got a bunch of mp3's from Andrew at ICT earlier this year. One song became my anthem of the Summer. This song about a guy who bought a cadillac but can't afford to run this thing is a modern-ish day parable in my eyes (which is the only eyes that counts wink )

Then I had came to rewrite the last chapter in The Last Argonauts.

I originally wrote 1:66 to Audioslave's The Last Remaining Light. When I reread 1:66 it came off as distant, sloppy and lacking in sinister 'bite'.

Then I was having a Korn day and stumbled across a song with major sinister 'bite'. 1:66 was no longer sloppy and distant. 1:66 rocked a massive one. 1:66 made The Last Argonauts. Counting on Me made The Last Argonauts and deserves such recognition.

Runners Up: Sin City by AC/DC (Frank Miller must have listened to this over and over), March of the Beggars by Ennio Morricone (rollickingly good, inspiring and upbeat), Supermoves and Doomsday by Overseer (both rocks heavy in a way metal's failed to do in years) The Ken Song by jdproject (think Ken Stage theme met by Foo Fighters - really good. Find it at VGMIX) Speedball Theme by Marsland Brotherhood (guitars go mental to one of the greatest themes ever).

Best Album I've Heard This Year: Powerage by AC/DC

The only album this year (and one of the fewest ever) that I loved after I heard it. Usually it takes me a while to warm to albums, especially my more favourite ones. Any album that I love on the first listen becomes an 'instant classic'.

Runners-Up: Actually I'll just list the few albums I loved on the first listen - just to show what class Powerage is in.

Vulgar Display of Power by Pantera. Astro Creep 2000 by White Zombie. Back in Black by AC/DC. Chocolate Starfish... by Limp Bizkit. Devil Without a Cause by Kid Rock. The Great Milenko by Insane Clown Posse.
