IT FUCKING HAPPENED AGAIN!
Windows somehow got corrupted on my computer--AGAIN!
Fortunately, I had the CD with which to re-install Windows, and I was able to repair it so I didn't lose anything on my main hard drive. I was, in fact, able to repair Windows and keep everything I had. I am making an updated backup file as I type, it'll be a while before it's complete but it will be completed.
I have no idea why this keeps happening. I had begun to suspect that a lightning blast that took out a transformer in or near our yard and sent a surge through our house may have been the culprit responsible for my old computer going all fucked up. Simply put, I figured the motherboard or perhaps the main hard drive had been damaged in some fashion, and that must have been why my computer kept rebooting when I went to start up Windows.
But this morning, it happened again, this time on the computer my state representative had given me. You can probably imagine the horror I felt at the prospect of losing everything on this computer and being unable to get online from home. Fortunately, as I said, I was able to repair Windows and keep everything. But I am updating my backup files onto my external hard drive as I type. Just to be on the safe side.
I did notice one thing though; AVG Free Edition has some kind of damaged component, and when I went to the site earlier to download the latest version (I had to uninstall the one I had) it warned about a new variant of some worm that affects Windows. Could this worm be the thing that has caused me so much trouble in the last few months? Could I have inadvertantly downloaded this worm, and it then proceeded to fuck up Windows?
I don't know. I do know one thing: I really could use a new computer. And I really must find some way, until I find gainful employment, to raise the money for one. Because I suspect this shit is going to keep on happening. And sooner or later, I'm going to find myself out of luck unless I have a job so I can save up to buy a new computer.
