My neck and shoulders are kicking my ass right now. I checked off the number of signatures yesterday at the county board of elections, out of 133 or so 99 turned out to be good. The minimum required to get the measure on the November ballot for the precinct I worked in was 70.
Of course, my work gathering signatures was not yet completed; someone who was supposed to work another precinct crapped out on finishing, so I and another person gathered 18 more in hopes of making sure there were enough good sigs to qualify that precinct for the ballot.
What we're trying to do is keep bars located on the main streets in our ward, so they're not coming into residential areas and bringing the noise and parking/traffic problems. There's also a bar owner who has had several places he owns where people were shot and killed. One of the murder victims was a 16-year-old, who was shot at a club downtown during a night the owner had the place open to teenagers. Needless to say, this guy is bad news and he doesn't seem to want to take the hint that we don't want him having his shooting gallery bars in our neighborhoods. Hence the ballot measure.
I was actually rather annoyed that some of the people who were supposed to help gather signatures crapped out and decided not to finish the job they were given. In some cases, they didn't even start, or show up. Anyone who says gathering signatures and going door to door is easy, obviously never seriously went into politics. My neck and shoulders are sore as hell, and I don't know why. And my hay fever is trying to turn into yet another sinus infection.
On the plus side, my work gathering signatures is done finally, so I can rest my weary bones for today (hopefully) and then get back to working around the house.
