I am applying to the Royal Academy in the UK for grad school, provided I get my stuff togeather and there before the 4th.
That is what I am going to do tomarrow.

What do you think of my statement for the app so far?
It may be worded differently tomarrow, but the idea of focusing on systems will still be core.
Last year 450 people applied for 20 slots, so chances are slim...

General Artist statement: Wade McDaniel 2005

I am an observer.
I can not always find the words but I always have a picture in my mind.
I am driven to make art on all levels, in all mediums, and in everything I do for the sole purpose of expanding and understanding both this reality and the lens through which this reality is perceived.
This reality is comprised of systems and those systems in turn are comprised of systems. Understanding the particulars of any one particular system describes in part the behavior of said system and the adjoining systems but the understanding of the larger picture is left largely absent. Understand how systems work and "a priori" the outlines of the whole of reality are made apparent. Systems exhibit the property of turning simple rules across iterations of similar entities into highly complex and ordered behavior as in a-life and cellular automata (exempli gratia as Stephen Wolfram pontificates in A New kind of Science).
It is tangentially suggested in Sync: the Emerging Science of Spontaneous Order by Steven Strogatz that the ability of systems to structure 'random' initial states into ordered final states is the antithesis to the proposed chaotic end state of this reality as described by the fourth law of thermodynamics.
Perhaps the most important system for humans is that of the mind, or neural net, as it is the lens through which we perceive and project. A neural net is like most systems in that it is an organism comprised of similar nodes each adhering to simple rules. The salient property of neural nets is to convert 'unclassified' stimulus into 'classified response', as in converting a collection of words on a page into a contiguous thought. Society behaves as a neural net.
Within society the neural net property of society is manifest most apparently by one set of systems in artists for the reason that both artists and neural nets are self-reflexive classification and pattern recognition systems. Artists are ideal for understanding systems and patterns as they are by definition excellent observers.
I am an observer.
I intend to build systems of works in different medias that coexists and interacts both with itself and with the viewer.

weird, i was gonna go to that anti-sweatshop thing but i'm stuck at work.
crazy times.

my therapist is a girl...talking to girls is way easier for me, although i suck at talking to pretty much EVERYONE.
i spend like 2/3 of the time just sitting around thinking of what i'm going to say, but i always wimp out. i fail at human interactions.
