Hi.

Happy New Year.

I thought mine was going well. Then my work decided to ruin my mood.

I need to get out of the service industry now. NOW. I didn't go to college and work my ass off for years to be expendable slave labor and have my job threatened over stupid mistakes.

I'm sorry I haven't been around. I've been moving and working and cleaning and thinking a lot about my life, where it is, and where I want it to go. I still love you people and I'm sure I'll be back around once I get resettled into myself.

I've made a few New Years' resolutions, but the biggest one is to be happy with where I am by the end of this year. I don't want to question why I bother doing what I'm doing anymore. If the only way to make money is in the fucking service industry, then I want to own the place and make the rules. Otherwise, I want to do something that matters. I want a job that makes me happy and somehow affects other people positively, in some other way than slinging sushi to yuppies for $2.13 an hour. After last night, I'm pretty sure that Marx had to have spent time as a waiter when he was writing about alienating labor.

I'd like to find somebody who loves me, but I must admit I'm not really worth loving right now. I'm stressed and bitchy and unhealthy and can't make up my mind whether I want to stay here and carve out a life or say fuck it and move home to help my parents.

To wind up this fucking depressing journal entry, my grandmother is not doing well, and once again I feel that I should be at home. It's really hard to feel like smiling at people right now.

Oh, and if you have an actual career and make more than $2.13 an hour, DO NOT post about how your job sucks more, ok? Thanks.

Yeah, I think that's right, or as right as it can be given oue fundamental honest disagreement on 2000. wink I do have one quibble, which is that (as Dean shows) Gore was too easy on Bush, not too hard. Admittedly, while I've never really cared for him, Gore was in a tough position because the media held him in contempt and would have savaged him even more had he really gone after Bush. But when you see him speak now--he's a different (and far better) man--he was getting really bad advice. Whether he wins or loses, the best thing about Dean is that he's telling the appeasers at the DLC to cram it with walnuts, and he's not shy about saying exactly what the GOP stands for. Good. Lieberman isn't hurting Dean, and he's destroying his own credibility, thank God. Kerry is a much sadder story, but his campaign is right out of the Gore 2000 playbook: tell the media what it wants to hear at a given time without figuring out that they can't be appeased. Fuck that.
