I saw two movies today (have to double up on my few days off). And I can say that I heartily recommend both of them.

My full review of "Love the Hard Way" will probably be up at the website linked in my profile in a day or so, so I'll just say here what I've been saying since I saw "Summer of Sam"--why won't Adrien Brody marry me?? This movie made me more in love than ever, though. "The Pianist" was a better movie, but in this one, he's the bad boy of my dreams--a small-time crook who writes and collects first editions. Oh, and he's in much better shape than he was in "The Pianist," and there are plenty of chance for me to ogle. But as usual, his best feature is his eyes. You can tell when he's lying, trying to chase off the girl that loves him in spite of it all.

Maybe this movie was too close to home--I once had a small-time crook ex-boyfriend who broke my heart over and over again, tried to chase me off and tell me that I didn't deserve him...
but from the other reviews I've read, this movie has stuck with other people, too. So if you get a chance (it's in very very limited release), go see it. If it's not playing near you, go bug your local indie movie house to get it to play near you. It needs to be seen.

Then I took a sushi break (gotta love working at a sushi restaurant--waiting tables might suck, but the discount is great), had some green tea ice cream, and went for a totally different type of movie--"Seabiscuit." Which made me cry also, for different reasons: for the story, especially because it's a true story, and also because I gave up horses when I was a punk sixteen-year-old. I miss them. I miss having something I really tried hard at, something that I would risk injury and worse to succeed at. I was always the kid who rode the horse no one else wanted, so I identified with this movie. And everyone needs a good happy underdog-defeats-the-odds-and-wins story every now and then, especially a true one. Makes you feel like life is worth living.

Now if I could only find Adrien Brody...

Who wants to come riding with me?

Oh, and I want to learn fencing, too. So I can be a really good pirate (you thought I'd given up, didn't ya?)

I actually kinda liked the People vs. Larry Flynt. I'm kinda partial to Huffington, but I'm looking forward to watching Flynt's campaign.
I guess they don't make studemts watch Judgement at Nurenberg anymore? It's a *great* subject, but whew, the movie sucks. Plus, in real life Jackson really botched some of the questioning; he bascially let Georing run circles around him. Yeesh.
