OK. Here comes the sincerity.
The search for a job in journalism has stalled out and died for now. This is the most writing I've done in a while, and it feels like part of me is dying. I've got to make some time, and find a purpose for writing at home if it's not going to be part of my work for now.
The search for a writing/editing/proofreading job/internship has so far cost me time, effort, and money, and has yielded so far: an interview with a magazine editor (diddn't get the job), and a phone conversation with a newspaper chief (still waiting to hear). So to sum up; I've got jack shit to show for five months of constant resume sending, letter writing, application submitting, and anxiously checking my email three times a day.
I'm calling off the hunt for now. I will stay at my job and use the summer months to rebuild my empty bank account, pay some bills, and get ready for my trip in August. Yes, a vacation. Going to Greece to see my family for the first time in three years. A badly needed little adventure.
After four quiet weeks of wine, three hour lunches followed by four hour naps, swimming in the Agean, and sitting on my ass under the grape vines, I'll be ready to reasess my future and make some decisions. More school is always an option, but I don't think I want to go that route. I need a new job. And a new life. But for now I've got to be a soldier.
