Joey Lauren Adams is known for her roles in seminal independent films like Chasing Amy and big budget comedies such as Big Daddy and The Break-Up. She has long been looking for her perfect role, and thats why she wrote Come Early Morning. With Come Early Morning, Adams decided to step behind the camera and take up the directing reins. Come Early Morning stars Ashley...

I met her one night at Cheatham St. Warehouse in San Marcos, TX. I was very drunk and thought she was someone else. She corrected me about her name and seemed very offended until I said, "Well I like your work, whoever you are." She told me that was the best compliment she'd had in some time, and was quite friendly after that...

You should also ask him if he ever thought of running for mayor of austin, since he has a lot of support there. ok ok. i'll stop with the suggestions. Aren't most young ladies obsessed with rock stars and shit? and i'm obsessed with a politician......I'm such a dork.

Life comes full circle. I first met James Gunn when I became a PA during preproduction on Tromeo & Juliet. I even got to read of a couple of drafts of Tromeo & Juliet before they locked their shooting script. Even though it was obvious that [Troma co-founder] Lloyd Kaufman had Tromaed up the script, Gunns witty, gross and often disturbing work showed through. I...

James Gunn wrote one of my favorite books of all time, "The Toy Collector". To see him making truly excellent films now, besides being a masterful author, is a dream come true! Rock it, James!
punchdrunkblake:
Totally; where the fuck are the hilarious cute girls that love horror flicks?

James Gunn rocks asses; I loved the Dawn remake so much. Slither was pretty awsome, though I'd like to see him either tackle a straight horror or a straight comedy. (Which, by the looks of things, he might be doing.)

Black Sheep is best known for their early 90s hit single The Choice Is Yours from the album A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing. Now half of the group, Dres, has put aside his high-top fade and released a digital-only Black Sheep album called 8WM/Novakane. I had a chance to speak with Dres about his attempt to makes the world his own.

Check out the official...

Tartan Asia Extreme has released a number of Asian horror films on DVD in the past few years, including some of my favoeites like Shinya Tsukamotos Tetsuo: The Iron Man and Oldboy, directed by Park Chan-Wook. But the Thai ghost story Ghost of Mae Nak by writer/director Mark Duffield is much different. It draws you in with excellent acting, and surprises with a tender...

While I found the film better than a lot of recent Hollywood trash, I don't think it lives up to the hype it's been given. Unfortunately the hype is largely because Mark is not Thai. There are many excellent Thai directors, whose work doesn't get this sort of press. It's not a bad film, worth seeing if you like ghost stories. See my blog for a review of the film.

Since Death of a President premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this year, there has been a lot of criticism thrown at the film--much of it from people who havent even seen it. Many of those criticisms came from people who thought the film would be a cathartic wet dream for liberals, when in fact it ducks a lot of politics and instead presents what...

It's a pretty interesting film. I think its getting a lot of flack because people think it advocates killing a sitting president, which it does not, versus presenting a what would happen if scenario.

You can actually watch the first six minutes of the film on the movie's official MySpace page at:
http://www.myspace.com/deathofapresidentmovie
private_grave:
i just finished watching this movie ten minutes ago
(yeah i stole it)
i screamed "that's a fucking m-16! all presidents are killed by military people!"
(im not sure they are but ya know that's where they get training, military sniper school)
.
i really liked the movie

Mario Van Peebles has been on a major upswing in the past few years. His feature directorial debut, New Jack City, helped establish him and eventually many other black filmmakers in much of the same way his father, Melvin Van Peebles broke ground with his film Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song. Then Mario paid tribute to his father in the hit independent film Baadasssss! or How...
