Ben Edlund is a comedy genius. I first discovered his comic book, The Tick, when New England Comics put in one of their ads A combination of The Punisher and Wolverine! I was pulled in by this gimmick only to find that The Tick had more in common with Bob Burdens Flaming Carrot and Sergio Aragons Groo the Wanderer. The Tick is a mysterious big...

Wow I remember my dad was a stuntman in L.A. and he ran into Ben Edlund and told him how much of a fan I was. I was really young back then and loved the Tick. He begged the guy to surprise me and call me as I stayed in Michigan at the time. and SURPRISE! He called! greatest gift from a dad ever! So now the Tick will especially hold a place in my heart forever.

Many were sad when the Lunachicks broke up. But hold your head high because Theo Kogan has bounced mighty high with her band Theo and the Skyscrapers. The new band includes many of Theo Kogans past collaborators such as Dimitry Makhnosky, Sean Pierce and Chris King. Theyve just released their new self-titled record and Theo and I have chatted all about it.

Buy Theo...

Rudy Ray Moore is Dolemite. When those five words came across movie screens back in 1975 it made history. Film history, black history, everyones history! Dolemite was a seminal film in the blaxploitation genre because it was one of the first films in the genre to actually be created by African-Americans. Before Moore cast himself as Dolemite he was already famous for his outrageous...

The era of the working comedian is in full force. After standup got so popular in the 70s and 80s, most comedians were leaving the stage to create their own movies and television shows, very often never coming back. Nowadays many comedians want to create their own TV shows and movies but dont get the chance so we get to see them perform standup in...

Few women have done sexually charged works that made an impression on both men and womens psyches. Tura Satanas look and work, especially in Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, is right up there with Bettie Page, Dixie Evans and Brigitte Bardot. Satana is a woman that took all the shit shes gone through in life and dumped that anger right into Faster, Pussycat. Over the past 15 years Richard Linklater has turned into one of the great American film auteurs. His last few years have been his most exciting artistically and financially. School of Rock was his biggest hit and he followed that up with Before Sunset for which he was nominated for an Academy Award. Now comes his adaptation of Philip K. Dicks novel A Scanner Darkly...

Great interview, here. Completely relaxed. I'm even more stoked for this damn movie . . . once it is in a theatre near me.
aluminumovercast:
I can hardly wait to see this film, being both a great fan of Phillip K. Dick and the rotoscoping used in A Waking Life. This should be a benchmark for animation, considering the current market. I recently saw Nacho Libre, which was worked on by the Hess brothers and Mike White, who is by far the most underrated writer in film today, and while I know Nacho Libre was sort of a kids' movie, all thirty-seven previews that were shown between Coca-Cola commercials before the film started were for CGI movie with talking animals, or some shit. There has to be a breakthrough soon in commercial film animation, I don't see why rotoscoping can't turn the tide.

Linda Medley may have grown up in rural California but that didnt stop her from reading comics. She grew up reading such kiddie books as Richie Rich but then later she became obsessed with the X-Men. She attended the Academy of Art College in San Francisco and eventually became a working comic book artist on such books as Books of Magic and Batman. But like...

Tony Millionaire is one of the best comic book creators in the world. Every cool underground scene is aware of his creations such as Maakies [which runs in over ten of the US largest weekly newspapers] and his lovely creation Sock Monkey. Millionaire has just added another soon to be classic character to his pantheon, Billy Hazelnuts. The new hardcover from Fantagraphics combines the nuttiness...
