This is a tough one! I’m probably the worst person I know at making decisions, choosing what to watch on Netflix is enough of a challenge for me - let alone making a life changing decision.
The last life changing decision I made was applying for a visa and moving to Canada from Australia!
It’s super hard to make decisions when you’re stuck in the middle, especially because staying where you are is often in your comfort zone.
The main things that help me filter out my choices on big decisions are:
- - Figuring out what you want. Sometimes all it takes it writing down pro’s and con’s. Take the time to understand your self and what makes you happy.
- -Don’t choose something just because you’re supposed to or it’s expected of you. This is your life too - even if it affects other people around you.
- -Consider both alternatives.
- -Avoid “What if’s”
- -There is no right or wrong decision, only indecision.
Even if we do follow all these things, mistakes still happen! Make mistakes and learn from them, it’s only human.
I try to think to myself (and maybe this is a manifestation of my anxiety) - When I am a little old lady in a Nursing Home, (or if I have kids some day they better look after me) will I regret the chances I did not take?
My mum used to tell me that she’s so envious of young peoples choices in todays world. She said that if she was in my shoes she’d try everything just once so she could say she could. It makes me realise how far we’ve come from 50 years ago when there were such heavy expectations on young people and what path they follow.
