How on earth would you illustrate someone without a voice? Besides the obvious no mouth thing, it has to be more conceptual.

Hmmm we had a book to do at the very end of our final fourth year which was to be stitch bound and everything, I wonder if it's that one? Except we had to actually write the book as well as part of copyrighting basically (well only a few chapters) so don't think it's that one...

how about some vines wrapped around the face where the mouth should be. Or have a speech bubble and do something creative with that.

Ok so things are still going madly stressful, so let's focus on things to look forward to:

- Easter holidays
- The new mad sin album
- I've started getting a (very small) weekly income
- The world cup?
- A possible reconciliation
- My current project, if I nail it
- Sleeping late on Saturday
- Living and working in Cape Town at the...

Hey, I'm excited about the World Cup, too! I think if the United States can get a good bracket...

Oh, ok, I'm an American, I know zip about the world cup...Except when Brazil won it in 1994 and I made the mistake of trying to drive through the neighboring town that's full of Brazilian immigrants! Everyone was out in the streets--it was fun to see, but it took forever to get where I was going.
boxofficepoison:
I may be mistaken I thought all South Africans were rugby mad not football. All I know is America couldn't care less about it.

Oh my god! I am so behind in all my uni work! I'm writing a test on Monday that I can't cause I don't have time or memory and none of my lecturers are replying my emails where I asked for extensions! And then on Tuesday again. And I'm making no progress with an A2 Where's Wally sized illustration that was due yesterday! This sucks...

A bit. Even before the draw, which I am still smiling a little about (Slovenia and Algiria? Really?), there was not a lot of enthusiasm about South Africa. Concerns are more about crime and transportation.

ur not the only one!

but go for it. take a break, leave the country for a week... or life. lol

I checked with the Department of State. The website reported that few American tourists had problems at the Federations Cup, but that was only eight national teams, and one was South Africa. So the police did not have that much to do. With 32 nations, plus the fact that the hotels that should have built were not, when I called my friend at State, he said "straight up red light." Right now, State is advising Americans to stay home.

State will be coming out with an official report on the World Cup next month. The more rand Obama gets, the better South Africa will look.

I'm so sick of these stupid South Africans bitching and whining about how white people don't belong here. I have absolutely nothing against people of different races, I have really awesome friends who aren't white, but it's so unfair that white people who had absolutely nothing to do with apartheid is being punished. I just saw this article called Kill the fucking whites now and...

That truly is disgusting.
I don't care what the end of that statement was ....kill the farmers, kill the straight people, whatever.
To have 3K people ready to go out and do it?

I am sorry that your government isn't actually doing anything to help bridge the gap between the races. And also that they aren't doing anything to stop the violence in that area.

The sad part is that all the violence and hatred is just going to slowly kill the country. Economy will get worse, violence and hatred will continue to grow, and education will decline.
seriphos:
Crime and violence needs to get under control in order for the society to progress at all. The government also knows the country is totally screwed without its white population. Stuff like this takes a long time to work out--we're still working on it in the states, 145 years after the end of slavery and 46 years after the major civil rights legislation of the 1960s. There's an inevitable backlash when overinflated hopes are dashed by reality.
Blaming the whites is going to be an easy answer for awhile. And 46 years of apartheid is a pretty heavy burden, even if your generation had nothing to do with it. Obama was two when King had his "I had a dream speech". It might take another 30 years for politicians who are truly "post-apartheid" to show up.

I don't blame you for feeling the way you do, though. It's a horrible situation. It's easy for me to take the long view thousands of miles away where no one is trying to carjack me.

Jesus fucking christ! Two days ago we get hijacked and my friend shot five times, and this morning my dad gets mugged from his bicycle, his phone, keys and shoes stolen. South Africa is such a shit hole, why would anyone live here out of their own choice?

I have had three friends offer me their World Cup tickets. The US is not close to selling out our ticket allocation; people are afraid to go there.

Also, there is not a great deal of trust in South Africa's leaders right now.

Crazy people are everywhere in the world, some places a bit more than others. SA from what I hear is not the safest place. Hope you and your friends recover and gtfo.

Last night my best friend was shot five times while I was sitting next to him in the car in an attempted hijacking. But he'll be okay. Thank God!

Last night was the worst night of my life. My two friends and I were just going home after a couple of drinks, we were accross the road from my friend's complex when we stopped at a red traffic light, then out of nowhere, six guys just started shooting my bestest friend on earth right next to me. My friend in the back and I...

Our president is so lame, wouldn't it be funny if it really came to him having to resign because of his latest love child. But really, he's getting married to a fourth, or is it fifth wife, and has like 20 kids. That's so... savage and primitive for a president. And then at the same time the government has all those ads encouraging everyone to...

Goddammit. Tonight there are awesome shows and my best friend finished her last day at her shitty job and I have money. But I have to go to someone's hippie braai. Great. I have to pass up on my friends to hang out with acquaintances cause I already said I'd go.

... But what if I didn't?

Blow off the acquaintance--a hippie braai sounds foolish whatever it is!

Will you be missed? Sometimes you gotta do stuff just 'cause, but on the flip-side, life's too short to waste time on "should"...
