So my heart failure finally cought up to me. I was born with a heart condition but I didn’t find out til I was 15. By 21 I had my first pacemaker and it’s been replaced a few times since. I’ve had a heart attack and have been in the hospital more times then I can remember. My last visit to the hospital on 2/25 was the wake up call tho. I was there for almost two weeks and I left with an appointment to meet with a team of doctors in my area that specialize in heart transplants. I went in April 24 for some tests and was only expecting to stay a few days but I never left. I had so many needless/tubes/equipment attached to me for the first week. I was denied for a heart transplant due to my BMI but I was able to get an LVAD for now. And finally May 20th was my big day. I don’t remember much of that first week because I was on so many medications and pain meds. I did have some complications that probably extended my stay for about a week and a half but I finally cane home in June 19, a week ago today. I don’t know if I will ever be able to return to work and I still haven’t been approved for disability. So now it’s a waiting game. But hey, I’m alive and that’s the most important thing.
