I am lucky to have friends and co-workers who are forgiving and who understand when I fuck up.
A letter from my boss:
"Katie,
Hey smile! Ok! I trust you and I am not mad at you. I will admit that I was surprised and dissapointed a little last night, but I am not worried about it ever happening again with you. People make mistakes and learn from them. You don't ahve to earn back my trust; you never lost it.
Last night, I was worried about getting the paper out like I always am, but I was much more worried about you because I knew what had happened was very atypical. I wished I could have made that clearer before, but as usual, my mind is on TILT on Wednesday night.
You have the hardest job out of anyone on staff and you've done an incredible job. I realize how much you have put into this paper and how much you have sacrificed to make it stronger. Since I have known you I have seen you blossom. You have the talent and drive to be successful. I don't doubt for a second that you will do a great job.
Like you said, last night was a learning experience. We all have setbacks. As far as drinking/smoking, I am not sure what to tell you. You are right that moderation is key and if you think you need to quit doing all of them completely for awhile maybe that is a wise decision.
I do want you to know though that you can talk to me about ANYTHING. I might not be as good of a council as a bunch of girlfriends and a massage party (or whatever you guys did)
, but I can be a really good listener and will try to help as much as I can.
Ok, we can talk more tomorrow if you like. I need to get some sleep. I hope your party was fun tonight. Thanks for emailing me.

Things are going better, but I am still planning on spending the weekend alone in my apartment with my cat, some law and order and my homework.
