I'm not sure what you're getting at in most of this post, but as for the last thing you ask... I think the only thing you need to ask yourself is what makes YOU whole as a person. Not what makes a "man." And certainly not what others' opinions on what a man is. All that matters is your opinion of yourself and if you are happy with it. If you're not... time to set about asking the questions that will help you be happier with yourself. I don't go about every day wondering what makes a woman a woman. I'm not a Clive Barker fan. I don't really like the C.B. or Steven King type books. I have read a couple books by both authors but wasn't too impressed. It's the typical storyline that I don't like. I perfer books that have unexpected happenings.
