I was thinking that if gas goes to the predicted $5.00/gallon then, finally, the USs gas prices will be more in line with most of the rest the world. However, in European countries, for instance, gas cost this much because it is heavily taxed, which then pays for necessary services and infrastructure maintenance (or in the case of disasters- re-building); while, the price increase here...

The really scary part is this: even if the cost of gas goes to $6 a gallon, you know that Big Oil could just get the government to start subsidizing coal to oil conversion. They will do anything and everythign to avoid actual conservation.
