Do you enjoy very meta horror/thriller movies set in 1985—but in a universe imagined by Hollywood’s impression of 1985 and not real 1985? Then may I recommend the brutal and sometimes shocking Maxxxine, a film that closes the trilogy begun with X and Pearl, but is less brutal/shocking than either.

I don't like scary movies, but really do want to try to watch this one...

Do you enjoy masterpieces of cinema? Then may I recommend Longlegs, which executes perfectly, w/ outstanding direction, acting, cinematography, and sound editing. Scary, horrific, tense, captivating, and simultaneously subtle and pronounced, the film spotlights acting & everyone delivers—powerfully. Were I to attach one word to the experience, it would be “intense.” When it’s quiet it’s the most dangerous. When it’s the most graphic, it’s the...

Do you enjoy space horror thriller movies where smart people—astronaut scientists no less—are required to make dumb decisions otherwise there’s no movie? Then may I recommend LIFE, which is what you expect except with great actors in roles that don’t really need them. Good budget, good SFX, &c. tho.

I do not like horror but this look like a great movie to watch!  🫶🏻

Do you enjoy experimental sci-fi/horror that’s _not_ experimental in an art house way but in a filmmaking way? Then may I recommend Monolith, a solid film with only one actor on screen for the duration, all other characters are audio only. Interesting, compelling plot, well acted, good movie.

@abashima it's an app for logging all the films you watch, you can add friends and see what they're watching, rate and review what you watch. It's great for finding suggestions of new films to watch too. If you decide to get it add me, Mat_Rix

Do you enjoy fantasy movies with enormously large budgets, super simple scripts, great costume design, and a cast of thousands? Then may I recommend The Great Wall, which is a great big popcorn movie that asks you to leave your brain in the other room. Do it, relax, and enjoy the monsters and big sets!

Do you enjoy quality, simple, PG-13 horror that puts you on edge then forgets to let up? Then may I recommend A Quiet Place: Day One in IMAX because, if you think about it, in a movie about being dead quiet, the use of sound is quite important to the experience and IMAX speakers bring the loud louds and whispery whispers in wonderful threatening clarity.

Do you enjoy well acted thoroughly formulaic crusading detective action thrillers? Then may I recommend 21 Bridges, which has great actors working material that’s a bit on the thin side but really you’re not there for sophistication, you’re there for the action and crusade. It’s like a comfort movie but with lots of shooting and sirens.

Do you enjoy psychological/nature horror where you’re not sure whether the main character is gaslighting himself of if he’s not paranoid enough? Then may I recommend the New Zealand film Loop Track, which has a great lead. It may/not be a slow burn depending on your taste but the genre requires some buildup/internal history to set the story and I liked it. Regardless of any...

Do you enjoy delicate, gothic, low-key, cozy ghost stories that aren’t as much a slow burn as slow ember? Then may I recommend I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, which gives the vibe of watching someone reading a short story—in a good way, in a sense. I enjoyed, but it’s a certain taste.
