Do you enjoy fictional stories about UFO conspiracies? Then may I recommend Majic, a well-written film that, while low budget, is pretty much all dialogue with a small cast. Cozy sci-fi, I guess. 🙂 It’s well shot and edited and I was anxious to see what happened next.

Do you enjoy movies in the are-they-insane-or-not genre? Then may I recommend Knock at the Cabin, which keeps that question going for an appropriate length of the film. This genre depends on script and is carried by the actors—both do their job well here.

Do you enjoy thrillers that have a kind of twist sort of? Then may I recommend I See You, which has a plot that doesn’t quite add up if you note certain key dialogue points, but nevertheless isn’t a bad thriller.

Do you enjoy French action films that feature great action scenes, more-than-necessary complex plots, and some really well directed scenes? Then may I recommend AKA, which slows through the middle but, golly, everything else hits.

Do you enjoy French slasher horror with gore and shocking kills turned up past where you thought they would go? Then may I recommend High Tension, which does every aspect of extreme slasher horror right—then adds a special touch to make it memorable.

Do you enjoy thrillers from 1996 that age surprisingly well? Then may I recommend Bound, a film that I haven’t seen in ages but had my complete attention for this rewatch. It flows well, has good direction, and chemistry. Great casting. Also: still sexy af! 😉

Do you enjoy horror franchises that are so meta they nearly meta themselves? Then may I recommend Scream 1–6, all showing on Paramount+, which I just saw all back-to-back. Pretty solid gaggle of films, altogether. Some +/–, but all ‘n’ all handled well, and last two were good.

Do you enjoy movies that aren’t? Then may I recommend Last and First Men, which has neither character nor plot—it’s just commonplace book-type ideas read aloud—w/ footage of unusual architecture in b/w so the screen isn’t blank. But, I did like it b/c the ideas were sci-fi.

Do you enjoy coming-of-age movies where the child is a witch and the story is slow? Then may I recommend Hellbender, which has a mythology just barely interesting enough for me to overcome my general apathy toward the COA genre. Rest of the film was competent.
